Amazon has reported Q4 2018 results for the period ended December 31, 2018.

Q4 2018:

  • Net sales increased 20% to USD72.4 billion compared to USD60.5 billion in Q4 2017.
  • Operating income increased to USD3.8 billion compared to USD2.1 billion in the in Q4 2017.
  • Net income was USD3.0 billion compared to USD1.9 billion in Q4 2017.

FY 2018:

  • Net sales increased 31% to USD232.9 billion from USD177.9 billion in FY 2017
  • Operating income increased to USD12.4 billion for the year, versus USD4.1 billion in 2017.
  • Net income was USD10.1 billion, compared to USD3.0 billion in 2017.
  • Operating cash flow grew 67% to USD30.7 billion for the trailing twelve months, compared to 18.4 billion in 2017.


Segment Financial Highlights – Q4

  • The North American segment reported sales grew 18% to USD44.1 billion, up from USD37.3 billion in Q4 2017. Segment operating income was USD2.2 billion, up from an operating income of USD1.7 billion in Q4 2017.
  • The International segment reported net sales of USD20.8 billion, grew 15% from USD18.0 billion in Q4 2017. Segment operating loss was USD642 million, compared to a loss of USD919 million in Q4 2017.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) reported net sales growth of 45% to USD7.4billion, up from USD5.1 billion in Q4 2017. AWS operating income was USD2177 million, up from USD1354 million in Q4 2017.


Q1 2019 Guidance

  • Net sales is expected to grow between 10%-18% or range between USD56 billion and USD60 billion. 
  • Operating income to be between USD2.3 billion and USD3.3 billion.
